If you’re an American, you know that the beginning of February means that the world stops for the Super Bowl.
To football fans, this is one of the most exciting and anticipated weekends of the year. After months of setting aside 3 hours every week for just 11 minutes of gameplay, they get awarded with the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl is the main event where men hit the shit out of each other in order to win a shiny ring.
And millions upon millions of people huddle around a TV to watch it every year. If you love football, you can look forward to a weekend of viewing parties, delicious snacks, beer, and lots of yelling.
For the rest of us, this weekend tends to be just another weekend.
Despite my parents being football mega fans, I somehow missed out on appreciating the sport. It’s kind of cool to see who’s made it to the Super Bowl, and knowing who’s performing at the halftime show, but that’s where my interests stop.
If you’re not a football fan, don’t fret. You still have a place in this world during that weekend.
In fact, there’s a ton for you to do either alone or with other like-minded friends who DGAF about football.
1. Take advantage of the Super Bowl sales
Did you know that there are CRAZY sales going on that weekend? Plenty of businesses prepare for last-minute shoppers to get their home ready for viewing parties.
This includes steep discounts on food, mobile phones, cookware, televisions, and game consoles. Other businesses also take advantage of knowing that not everyone won’t be interested in watching, so you can get discounts on movie passes, and restaurants.
If you missed out on Black Friday you might want to take advantage of these last minute deals. Not because you want to watch the Super Bowl, but just because. Plus, you can get everything from Amazon, and if you’re a Prime member, ensure you get it in time for the weekend. Here’s what’s going on until Saturday, February 3rd:
Samsung 2.1 Sound Bar with Wireless Woofer Home Theater System – $449 $229 ($220 off)
Sonos Compact Wireless Speaker with Alexa – $199 $149 ($50 off)
2. Have a girl’s night in
Okay, so it’s time to break in that brand spanking new TV you just got. Gather the girls up and pick out a few movies and shows to catch up on.
Have a good old-fashioned sleepover but for adults. Break out some good snacks and that bottle of wine you’ve been saving up or, let’s be real, multiple bottles of the cheap stuff. Create a spa day and mute out the rest of the world while you relax and catch up.
Treat yourself to a spa kit and some cute, comfy pajamas. Create your own football-free haven and mute out the rest of the world while you relax and catch up.
Amp up your relaxation with these any day of the year:
Yankee Candle 12 Piece Sampler Kit from Yankee Candle
GLAMGLOW 3 Piece Clay and Mud Facial Masks from Sephora
The Face Shop Animal Character Mask Sheet (Variety Mask 10-Piece) from Amazon
3. Throw a party for your interests
If you still want to have as much fun (or more) as your friends that love football, throw a party that celebrates something you love. It can be as trivial or as extravagant as you want to make it.
Recently get a promotion at work? Did your favorite singer announce a tour? Did you simply survive the week? Throw a party!
Grab some discounted streamers and other party favors. Counteract the noise your neighbors are making from screaming at the TV with blasting music for a fun dance party.
Make your party memorable with these:
4. Watch the Puppy Bowl and Kitten Bowl
Okay, so this is a must no matter how you’re spending your weekend. Watch adorable kittens and puppies run around and play on a miniature football field.
Pick a favorite “player” and watch the cuteness unfold.
5. Leave the country
If you literally don’t want to hear a word about football, try leaving the country! Plane tickets are usually cheap during that weekend because there’s a low demand.
Go on that Caribbean trip you’ve been talking about for months. Gather the girls and buy group tickets to a place of your dreams. Take a road trip to Canada or Mexico and enjoy a quiet weekend that’s football-free.
Check out the amazing international flights offered by The Flight Deal.
6. Go out
This is a great time to go out if you’re trying to have fun with your girls because there will be significantly fewer men out. Go out for dinner and drinks and move on to the club. Shake your booty in peace without a bunch of weirdos waiting to pounce on you for once.
7. Try out all of the new Super Bowl snack recipes
I already mentioned that food will be discounted. Try your hand at making new snacks for a group (or yourself). Pinterest is overloaded with new recipes to try this week. Remember to snap some good pics of your creations for all of your #WifeMe and #DomesticAF posts.
8. Have a Halftime Show viewing party
This might be cutting it too close to caring about football, but the half time shows tend to be iconic.
You can pull up a countdown clock to know exactly when the show will air. so you can take a break from doing all of the above suggestions so you can at least participate in some Super Bowl discussions at work/school the next day.
Is the performance amazing? Are there special guests? Live tweet the event so you can be part of a whole group of like-minded people that only tuned in for the performance.
9. Run errands
Have you been postponing running specific errands? Take advantage of all of the empty stores and malls during the hours leading up to the Super Bowl.
There are plenty of stores that take advantage of the low demand by having even more sales, so you can shop for your Valentine’s Day gift in peace.
10. Go to the gym
Staying in and binging on stuff you’ll probably regret later? Try going to the gym! I guarantee it will be empty the day of the Super Bowl.
Try out that new workout routine that you’ve been too afraid to start. Try out some new equipment. Work your heart out and turn into a sweaty, smelly mess without judgment. Dance and sing to your favorite song.
It takes a special kind of person to go to the gym during the Super Bowl. If you’re not alone, give a silent head nod because that person had the same genius idea as you.
And there you have it. There’s plenty for you to do during the Super Bowl weekend that has nothing to do with football. Take advantage of distracted guys, empty stores, and amazing sales.
Make your weekend a one of the books with these options that will fit anyone’s weekend mood.
Let me know in the comments what your plans are or what you ended up doing.
I’d love to hear about it!
